Kamakhya Temple is also known as Kamrup Kamakhya Temple. It is one of the important pilgrimage destinations of Hindus, especially for Tantric worshippers. The temple is built to worship the goddess mother Kamakhya, the feminine power. It is one of the oldest of the 51 Shakti Pitas. It marks the site where devi Sati’s womb fell. Assam State Museum is also known as Assam Rajyik State Museum. Previously Assam Provincial Museum is located in Dighali Pukhuri tank. It was built during the colonization of British in India in the year 1940.

The museum has collections of artifacts and sculptures dating back to the 5th to 12th century.

Various sections of the museum display different sect of history. You can find Assamese, Tai, Myanmar’s manuscripts in manuscript section.

There are huge collections of swords, armors in ‘Arms and ammunition’ section. Arms are collected from Ahom dynasty of 1200’s and Ammunition from the World War II. 

Various sculptures collected from Indus Valley Civilization are displayed in the ‘Prehistoric Terracotta’ section.
