History behind Prakasam Barrage:
The idea to build a dam on the Krishna River in 1798 came from Captain Buckle. It was amended in 1839 and 1841 by Captain Best and Captain Lake to allow Major Cotton. It was later approved by the Board of Directors of the East India Company on 5 January, 1850 and work on the dam began. Construction of the dam began in 1852 and was completed in 1855. The water stored by this dam plays a huge role in agriculture. Irrigation of many farmlands is done in the water trapped by this dam.
