What is Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary?

This Wildlife Sanctuary is a sanctuary situated in the Lohit District of NorthEastern India state of Arunachal Pradesh. The sanctuary ‘Kamlang’ is named after the Kamlang river which flows through the park. In the sanctuary Mishmi, Digaru Mishmi, and Miju Mishmi tribal people reside around the boundary. Many wildlife creatures along with lakes show up in the Wildlife Sanctuary.

What is the total area of the Wildlife Sanctuary?

The total area of the Sanctuary is 783 square kilometers. 

What is inside this Wildlife Sanctuary?

This Sanctuary has a large number of wildlife creatures. In the sanctuary, there is a lake called Glow lake; this lake is very much popular to travelers. In the sanctuary 61 species of mammals, 105 bird species, and 20 species of reptile are present. Huge numbers of animals in the sanctuary. Various species of Tigers, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Snow Leopard, Hollock Gibbon, Stump tailed macaque, Elephant, Boar, Civets, Capped Langur, Hornbills, Deer, and flying squirrels, etc are found. Six species of primate found in the  Sanctuary out of the total 15 species found in India. 

In, the upper region of the park, there is alpine vegetation. In the lower region, there are foothills and green forests There lies a rich amount of flora and fauna . There are 150 species of tree and 49 species of orchids are in the sanctuary. Moreover, an immense variety of grasses, shrubs, bamboos, and herbs are also found in the sanctuary. There are different water bodies passing through the sanctuary. Among them, Glow lake is the most popular to visitors. The total area of the glow lake is 8 square kilometers with a circumference of 4-5 kilometers. Tribal people like Mishmi, Digaru Mishmi, and Miju Mishmi live their livelihood in the sanctuary.

This Sanctuary is a popular place for visitors. There is a diverse atmosphere of a huge number of wildlife creatures. Everyday a great number of  visitors pay a visit to the sanctuary and enjoy passing time there. The whole hilly surrounding with the wildlife creatures, birds, trees, herbs , shrubs , grasses along with the glow lake and other water bodies make the place much attractive to the travellers.

Who lives in this Wildlife Sanctuary?

Tribal peoples Mishmi, Digaru Mishmi, and Miju Mishmi live in the Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary. Those people claim that they were of descent from King Rukmo. They believe in an invisible God known as Suto Phenkhenynon Jamula.

Visitors can visit throughout the year but the best time to visit :

October to April

How to Reach:

By road: From the Tinsukia city the Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary is only 132 km away. It will take approximately 2 hours 57 minutes to reach the sanctuary from the Tinsukia city by car or bus.

By railway: The Kamlang Wildlife Sanctuary is 140 km away from the New Tinsukia Junction. It will take approximately 2 hours 59 minutes from the station to reach the sanctuary.

By airport : The Dibrugarh Airport is 170 km away from the sanctuary, it will take around 3 hour 29 minutes to reach the destination
