History of Goa State Museum: 

In 1973 the museum was created as an Archeology museum unit of the Department of Archives in Goa. On 29 September 1977, a small museum was opened in a rented building and on 18 June 1996 a new complex for the museum was built and it was formally inaugurated by the President of India. The museum provides information about the history, tradition, and culture of Goa. It shows different aspects of the city.

This Museum has a large collection of sculptures, art, history, wooden objects, carvings, bronzes, paintings, manuscripts, rare coins, and anthropology. Which you may not find in any other museum. The museum has about 8,000 artifacts representing all regions of India and 645 objects which are borrowed from the Institute Menezes Braganza Art Gallery and the Kala Academy. It does not just give you pleasure but also lots of knowledge. If you love to visit museums you must go there. You will have a beautiful time.

The State Museum is on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, And Friday. It is closed on Saturday and Sunday. It opens at 10 am and closes at 5:30 pm.
