Edakkal Caves is one of the popular heritage sites in Kerala. It is situated at an altitude of 4000 feet. Edakkal Caves are two natural caves located on top of Ambukuthi Mala and these caves lie 1200 meters above sea level.

There are many legends behind the formation of Edakkal caves. Lava and Kusha, the son of sir Rama were formed with the arrows fired and this is associated with Kutti Chathan and The Goddess Mudiampilly. Many people used to have a pilgrimage tour to this place to honor the Goddess.

Inside the Edakkal caves, you can see two chambers. This high chamber is 18 ft, wide 12 ft and lowers 18 ft and the upper chamber is 96 ft, high 18 ft, wide 22 ft. These caves have the great attention of historians and archeologists. These caves belong to the Neolithic and Mesolithic ages.
