The site was completely changed by the Assam Earthquake that shook the whole of the North-East and the kund was completely covered. A very strong current is now flowing over the original site of the kund but massive boulders have in a mysterious way embedded themselves in a circular formation in the river bed thus forming another kund in place of the old. It is believed that sage Parasuram beheaded his axe to follow the order of his father . The result of the heinous act is horrifying . The axe got stuck on his hand. He visited many Holy places to get rid of the axe but he could not remove the axe from his hand. At last, he reached the mountain Mahendragiri and made a channel from a Kund to take a dip in the water to wash away his sin and to get rid of the axe. Miraculously the axe got removed from hand and after that incident the Kund is known as the Parasuram Kund.
