About Ranchi

Ranchi is the capital of the Indian state of Jharkhand. Ranchi was the centre of the Jharkhand movement, which called for a separate state for the tribal regions of South Bihar, northern Orissa, western West Bengal and the eastern area of what is present-day Chhattisgarh (According to wiki). The City is named after a local bird ‘Rinchi’, mostly found in and around the famous “Pahari Mandir”, the Hill Temple in Ranchi. Ranchi is blessed with mineral resources in abundance and is known as the “Manchester of the East”. It accounts for nearly 18% of the national mineral production. With six industrial areas, it is an integral part of the industrial setup of the state of Jharkhand along with Jamshedpur and Bokaro. Located at the base of the majestic Ranchi hill, this lake was constructed in the year 1842 by a British National Colonel Onsely. It is centrally located and has boating facilities. An ideal retreat, it provides visitors boating opportunities, a perfect way to explore the natural beauty of its surroundings. You can also hike to Ranchi Hill, which houses a Shiva temple. From here, you can get a panoramic view of the surrounding scenery. You can also enjoy a picnic on the banks of the lake. The best time to visit the lake is during monsoons, when it looks like a pristine diamond set into a crown of emerald green. Panch Gagh Falls

Rushing down from a small height and making its way through the rough boulders, Panch Gagh Falls is a famous waterfall in Ranchi. It is a single waterfall that rushes down from a not-so-great-height in five tiers. Thus, it gets its name this way. “Panch” means “Five” and “Gagh” mean “Tiers”. Despite the rapid flow of the other huge waterfalls, you can easily hear the soul-calming rhythm of Panch Gagh Falls. You can enjoy here the activity of boating but the Tourism Department of Jharkhand is planning to add more activities for people visiting Panch Gagh Falls. The foot of the waterfalls has a very calm and serene atmosphere and it’s also an ideal location for picnics and weekend getaways.

40 km outside Ranchi lies the scintillating Patratu Valley. With sparkling waters of the Patratu Dam on one side and lush green trees flanked along the other, driving along the Ghat of the Patratu Valley is truly a stupendous experience. The roads are picturesque too with wide corners and fenced borders. Get a splendid view of the Patratu Dam from the hills, and enjoy untouched nature at its best in this area. However, it’s highly recommended you to do not venture into these roads after dark because of the rampant Naxalite influence in the area.

Birsa Zoological Park

One of the best and considered to rank amongst the most beautiful zoos in the country, Birsa Zoological Park is a treat for wildlife enthusiasts as you can delve inside a world brimming with exotic botanical exhibits and a thriving biodiversity. The zoo is home to a beautiful Rose Garden as well. The artificial lake in the zoo has boating facilities. Spread over an area of 104 hectares of land the zoo is natural habitat housing for a host of animals like lion, tiger, hyena, fox, wild cats, barking deer and elephants.

Also referred to as the Birsa Jaivik Udyan, the site shelters a comprehensive line of wild animals, from the dry moat that houses the Sambar to the thickly wooded enclosures of the Barking Deer.

Tagore Hill

This famous Tagore Hill is located in Morabadi, Ranchi. It is a popular hilltop in the state of Jharkhand. Also known as Morabadi Hill, this hilltop has a long history with the venerable Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore. This hilltop was named after him. Scenic beauty and magnificent panoramic vista with its green color, Vantage Point stands proudly at an altitude of 300 feet, an ideal picnic spot and a popular tourist attraction near the city. It is believed that Rabindranath Tagore used to come up here to enjoy the utter ataraxy and solitude at the top, and to write books. A number of his famous books have been conceived and written up here.

You can reach the top by climbing a flight of 200 – 250 stairs and enjoy stunning views of the town below. Besides, you can also try your hand at trekking, rock climbing and several other adventure sports and thrilling activities here. At the foot of the hill is also situated the famous Ramakrishna Ashram and a centre of Divyayan and Agararian Vocational Institute. In addition to that, you can also enjoy mesmerising sunsets from uphill.

Dassam Falls

Dassam Falls is also known as Dassam Falls. It’s located near the Taimara village in the Ranchi district. is a spectacular waterfall in the state of Jharkhand which is a tributary of the Subarnarekha River. Cascading at a height of 144 feet, the waterfall boasts of complete purity, peace and spirits. The area around the venue is covered in rich green, which makes the area an ideal picnic spot. To reach the spot you have to take a flight of stairs. You can also stop in between and enjoy the gorgeous scenery around you.

The waterfall is basically a Nick Point, also known as Knick Point, which means that it has been developed over the years due to the break in the rocky slopes in a longitudinal manner. For the same reason, it is not ideal to swim or to take a step into the water as the current is strong and the ground is uneven. Other than that, the region echoes with the gurgling sound of water which is like music to the ears, and is perfect to relax and rejuvenate.

Sun Temple

The Sun Temple is located amidst lush greenery and serene surroundings and absolutely worth a visit. It’s only 6 km away from the city. The Sun Temple has an extremely captivating architecture and has the shape of a giant vehicle with 18 wheels driven by seven horses. The temple complex also has a holy pond which is highly revered among Hindus. So, you can make tour here for several hours to earn some spiritual knowledges and enjoy architectural beauty.

Nakshatra Van

If you’re searching for the perfect picnic spot after getting through a long week, Nakshatra Van is where you stop looking. Decked with plush greenery and blooming flowers, this place is sure to alleviate your mood. The main crowd-puller is a beautiful fountain that lies in the centre and looks especially mesmerising in the evenings. Situated in front of Raj Bhawan in Ranchi, Nakshatra Van is an urban park in the city, an initiative of the Jharkhand Forest Department. Replete with plenteous flora and verdant greenery, the park is one of the most popular parks in the city.

By Road: Ranchi is well-connected with many other cities of India. Bus services are available for many cities and towns. You can travel in deluxe bus services or book cabs from Ranchi Car Rental services and access taxi services online. National Highway 33 and 23 pass through Ranchi. Jharkhand State Road Transport Corporation operates several buses as well. There are private bus operators which offer luxury buses & this buses can also be hired from various places and to different cities.

By Train: Ranchi Railway Station is the main railway station of Ranchi and is connected to most of the cities like Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, etc. Its railway hub has four major stations namely Ranchi Junction, Hatia Station, Tatisilwai Station and Namkom Station. There are daily trains like the Shatabdi Express, Hatia Howrah Express, Hatia Patna Express, etc. then bi-weekly trains like Ranchi New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Ranchi Kamakhya Express, etc. You can easily hire a taxi or cab to reach your preferred destination after reaching the railway station.

By Air: The nearest airport is Birsa Munda Airport in Hinoo, which is 7 km away from the city center. Gaya Airport at 179 km away, Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Airport in Patna at 420 kms awa and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata located 365 km away. Birsa Munda Airport has direct flights from Patna, Pune, Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Goa, Jammu and Kolkata. Major airlines like Air India, GoAir, Indigo, Jet Lite and Jet Airways are serviceable here and it is also furnished with an international terminal. One can fly into Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport and travel on to Ranchi either by air or train.
