Rakab Forest

Maharaja of Keshargarh is known to have fought the British rule bravely and looted the Purulia treasury. The Rakab forest used to be the hunting place of Kashipur and is popular known as the forest of 16 cross. The Maharaja was hung to death here, the fort is till here in a dying condition, a brave witness of the rich past of the district.

By Road: Purulia is well connected by road to other nearby cities in the state of West Bengal. As it is a famous tourist spot of West Bengal, regular government and private buses, along with taxis and cabs, run to and from the township maintaining its connectivity. So, you can easily reach Purulia by your favorite coaches.
 
By Train: Purulia railway station is known for being the best in the region. This railway station is only 1.5 km away from the main town of Purulia. It is a junction and most trains on long route stop here. Purulia has direct trains from major cities and connecting trains from Kolkata and Howrah. The connecting train from Howrah to Purulia runs on all days except for Saturday.
 
By Air: Purulia has no any airport of its own. “Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Airport” in Kolkata is the nearest airport to Purulia. The airport is well connected to all parts of India and abroad. Purulia is 330 km from Kolkata, from where you can either hire a taxi or travel on buses that run regularly on this route to reach your preferred destination.
