About Kufri

Kufri, located near the Himalayas, is a picturesque hill station located at a distance of 20 km from Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. It was founded by the British in 1819. The popularity of the hill station as a tourist spot has only increased in the last few decades. The name ‘Kufri’ comes from ‘Kufr’ which means ‘Lake’. Particularly popular among trekkers, Kufri is the starting point of the track among others in Manali, Shimla, Revalsar and Fagu. Kufri, Shimla and Chail also form the Golden Triangle of Himachal Pradesh.  The cool and pleasant climate with its spectacular natural beauty has recognized Kufri as a perfect place for summer.

Skiing In Kufri

Kufri, the winter sports capital of Shimla, presents each visitor with its beautiful white snow cover. This is heaven for Skier.  Hundreds of skiers flock here from the first snowfall of the year until the snow melts. Kufri’s estuary, slopes, heights and snow are one of the most adventurous platforms for skiing. The best time to skiing in Kufri is from mid-December to early February. At this time of year, Kufri has the perfect snow carpet for skiing. The place is famous for its deep valleys and thrilling slopes and is best suited for skiing. 16 km from Shimla, this place was formerly known as a small pond. Today it has developed into a beautiful and adventurous tourist destination. Tourists flock to this place to experience the adventure of skiing.

Horse Ride To The Mahasu Peak

In the inhospitable terrain of Kufri, the only means of transport to reach the highlands is horse-riding. This activity is fun and completely safe. Enroute to the tourist park one can enjoy the apple orchards and the view of the mountains ahead. The horses/mules can be hired for Rs. 650 for Mahasu and Rs. 380 to Deshu Peak. The Nag Temple on top of the peak is a sight to behold, as is the panoramic view from the top.

Kufri Fun World

It is located at an altitude of about 2800 meters above sea level. Kufri Fun World is one of the world’s amusement parks. It has the highest go kart track in the world. Situated in the middle of the snow-capped Himalayas, it is one of the most beautifully located amusement parks in the world. Impossibly beautiful Kufri Fun Ward is crowded with thousands of visitors. This is definitely a place to enjoy with family and friends.

The Himalayan National Park

The Great Himalayan National Park is one of the national parks of India, located in the Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh. The park is home to a variety of wildlife species on all three sides of the Himalayas. The Great Himalayan National Park was declared a national park in 1999. It is currently home to more than 375 species of animals, 31 species of mammals and 181 species of birds.  This beautiful location of the national park is made more attractive by the pine and oak trees.

The secluded location of the park confirms that the villages inside the park have their own culture and lifestyle. Each village in the interior has a deity of its own and they worship them separately. A few fairs are also organized here in April, May, August and September. The Great Himalayan National Park is an amazing place to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is definitely a place for all nature lovers to enjoy.

Indira Tourist Park

Indira Tourist Park is a park near the Himalayan National Park. This is a great destination for a quiet environment. One of the unique things to do in Kufri is to experience the Yak riding. The slow, raised, fluttering creature will force you to return on time when people travel to Yak. In addition to the memorable experience, you will also be able to see beautiful landscapes and spectacular views while on the route. Tobogganing

Tobogganing is emerging as one of the top activities and entertainment in Kufri lately.  This revived activity is reminiscent of old days.  The activity allows you to slide alone or on a sled snowmobile with the organization. This route offers an enchanting view full of snow-capped peaks, valleys of trees and cheerful currents. You must try this action while you are in disbelief.

How To Reach

By Road: There are well-maintained roads that connect Kufri to the neighbouring towns and major cities of India such as Delhi, Chandigarh, Amritsar and Manali. Private as well as state-owned buses operate between Shimla and Kufri and also connect it to Narkanda and Rampur. The smaller roads leading to the top are dirty and muddy making it little risky, especially during the monsoon and winter seasons. So, be careful.

By Train: The nearest railway station is Shimla, which is 22 km away from Kufri. It’s connected by narrow gauge line with Kalka (100 km) which in turn is connected with the major cities in India. The toy train journey from Kalka to Shimla is enchanting and passes through 107 tunnels and lofty arched bridges. The duration of the journey is around six hours. The frequency of trains that ply from Kalka to Shimla is pretty good with atleast four trains plying to and fro from Shimla daily.

By Air: Shimla is the nearest airport & it is about 13 km away from Kufri. Flights from Shimla operate to Delhi and Kullu. Taxis & cabs are easily available from Shimla airport to reach Kufri. Also you can easily hire them to reach your preferred destination.
