Famous for: In Jorhat, There are as many as 135 tea gardens. Jorhat is home to other heritage sites and other natural reserves such as thengal manor, raja maidam ,gibbon wildlife sanctuary, dhekiakhowa bornamghar, sukapha samannay kshetra, part from the tea plantations. One of the the oldest and most famous places of worship in assam is the dhekiakhowa bornamghar.

Jorhat is one of the prime cities of Assam. It was carved out of Sivas agar district in 1983 and is the headquarter of Jorhat district. On the banks of river bhugdoi, a tributary of the river Brahmaputra, Jorhat derives its name from two heats or bazaars “masorhaat and sowkihaat”. To the renowned historical monuments of assumes culture this city is like home.  Like the Brahmaputra river, which forms the largest riverine island in the world it has powerful water-bodies. The people was inspired to participate in cultural activities through the decades by the cultural diversities which prevailed in Jorhat nearly a century ago. Jorhat has been able to produce many creative writers, musician, actors, historians and journalists, as a result which termed Jorhat “the cultural capital of Assam”. Tea plantations are the main agricultural areas which also takes the shape of a tourist attraction  around the city. Every year, it attracts a lot of tourists. Island of Majuli, the internationally recognized river is just about 20 km away from this city and can be accessed by ferries from Nimati Ghat. Today Jorhat has grown into a city that boasts of a huge number of premier educational institutions, shopping malls, multiplexes, eateries, residential apartments, hotels and resorts. Both the Jorhat airport as well as the ISBT are accommodated by the west of the city, while Jorhat town railway station lies in central Jorhat.

How To Reach

By Road: There are regular buses and taxis available connecting Jorhat to cities like Guwahati, Shillong and Ahmedabad. The roads are considerably smooth. As per your budget, you can choose between types of buses operating between Jorhat and your city.

By Train: There are two railway stations in Jorhat- Mariani Junction and Jorhat Town Railway Station. The former is the main junction of Jorhat city and is connected to major cities of India. It is located at a distance of 18 km from the city centre. It takes around half an hour to reach the city. While the latter is situated nearby at a distance of 2 km from the heart of the city. From both stations, you can easily hire a taxi to reach Jorhat.

By Air: Jorhat has its own airport called Rowriah Airport. It is located 7 km away from the city. This domestic airport is well-connected to prominent cities of India like Bangalore, Kolkata and Guwahati. You can easily board a flight to Jorhat airport and from there hire a taxi to reach the city.
