Famous For: Dumboor is a beautiful lake and it is famous for its charming water body. There is a Hydel Project near the lake from where River Gomati originates and this is called Tirthamukh where on 14th January every year famous ‘Pous Sankranti Mela’ takes place. The lake is the confluence of rivers Raima and Sarma.

Major Attractions: This limited range lake is one of the tourist attractions in its entirety. Moreover there are some interesting places and creatures to enjoy in the vicinity of this lake. Such as – Kamala Sagar Lake, Rudrasagar Lake, Islands, Birds etc.

Ideal Visit Time: During the rainy season the lake is filled with water. Due to this, various activities in the vicinity of the lake were disrupted. So we would advise you to refrain from traveling to Dumboor during the rainy season. On the other hand, you can enjoy summer and winter very well.

About Dumboor

Dumboor Lake is located in the Amarpur sub division. It is about 120 km away from the capital city of Agartala, 63 km from Udaipur, 34 km from Amarpur & 14 km from Jatanbari. It is shaped like a tapered drum and thus has been named after the damroo (small tapered percussion instrument) of Lord Shiva. This place is no less than a paradise for nature lovers.

Dumboor with a water area of 41 square km with an unending spell of luxuriant green vegetation all around stands majestic for her exceedingly charming beauty and hold a great appeal for tourists out for day in the great outdoors. There are 48 islands dotting the lake, which is home to numerous birds o all shapes and colours. Migratory birds, water sport facilities including boating facility and variety of wildlife are an additional attraction.

The lake also acquires a rich reservoir of natural fishes. This is also the place which is near to the Tirthamukh Pilgrim Centre and  where Poush Makar Sankranti Fair is held each year.

Kamala Sagar Lake

Kamala Sagar, located few kilometres away from Agartala town is a beautiful vast lake at the border of Bangladesh. Legends reveal that this lake was excavated in the 15th century by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya. A famous temple dedicated to Goddess Kali, stands at the bank of Kamalasagar that was built in the 16th century. A deity of Goddess Durga dating back to 12th century is positioned inside the temple. Owing to the scenic beauty, this lake serves as one of the excellent picnic spots in the north-eastern state of Tripura.

Rudrasagar Lake

Located in the Melaghar block in Sipahijala district of Tripura, Rudrasagar is a picturesque lake that has lately been recognised as one of the wetlands of national importance for the conservation of resources and their sustainable use, by the Government of India’s Ministry of Environment and Forest. Also known as Rudijala, three rivers named Noacherra, Kemrali Cherra and Durlavnaraya form the lake. It is about 58 km away from Dumboor.

Boasting of utter serenity and tranquility, the lake is a popular tourist spot in the region. The highlight of the lake is also the magnificent Neermahal which is situated at the north-east bank of the lake. Built in 1930, the palace exudes timeless charm.

There are about 48 small islands in this Dumboor Lake. These are really amazing to look at. These islands play a vital role in making your boating experience even more enjoyable. It is also a great place for photographers There is no better place to spend some beautiful moments with your family or friends.

How ro reach

By Road: Dumboor is 115 km from Agartala and 60 km from Udaipur. It is well connected by bus with the major cities of North East India. Tripura State Transport Corporation buses ply towards different places of North East. Local Transport – Private taxis, auto rickshaws and city bus service are available from Agartala Airport.

By Train: The two nearest railway stations are Kumarghat and Dharama Nagar. You can take a bus or taxi from Udaipur to reach the station.

By Air: Nearest airport is Agartala and it is 120 km from Dumboor and 60 km from Udaipur. Agartala is connected by airlines flights with Calcutta, Guwahati and Delhi. One can easily reach the Udaipur by air from Agartala.
