About Bilaspur

Bilaspur is a traditional city in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It is divided by the winding Arpa river. The villages near Ratanpur and Malhar are especially known for their ancient and intricately carved Hindu temples. The Khutaghat Dam to the north is built by hills. “Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary” is a tiger sanctuary located northwest of the city. Gobind Sagar Lake

Gobind Sagar Lake was built in 1976. It is a man-made reservoir. Its reservoir is Govinda Sagar. It is 90 km long and covers about 170 sq km. The dam was dedicated to the nation by the late Pt. Jwahar Lal Nehru on November 20, 1963. Govinda Sagar Lake is famous for its attractions, adventure activities, recreational fun and so on. Govinda Sagar Lake is a symbol of pure Himalayan beauty. Situated in the foothills of the Himalayas, the green mountains blend in with the beauty of the lake. Govinda Sagar Lake is one of the tourist attractions and is well known for its variety of fish as well as flora and fauna. Gobind sagar lake is home to many species of birds and animals like Panther, Wolf, Chausinga, Sambar, Hyena, Sloth bear, Nilgai, Chinkara and wild boar. And fishes namely Tor Putitora (Mahasheer), Labeo Dero (Gid), Mystus Seenghala (Singhara) and Mirror Carp. You can enjoy multiple sports activities in the reservoir like Swimming, Surfing, Water-skiing, Kayaking, Rowing, Canoeing, and White Water River Rafting.

Bhakra Dam

Bhakra Dam is located on the border of the northern Indian state of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The very famous Bhakra Dam is the highest straight gravity dam in the world. The view of this huge dam and the surrounding jungle is breathtaking. So, lots of tourists are eager to visit this amazing place to catch a glimpse of this engineering wonder. Bhakra Dam is a dam that is four decades old. It is located in the village of Bhakra in Bilaspur, about 13 km upstream from Nangal. Built on the other side of the Sutlej River, Bhakra Dam is the second longest dam in Asia. It is 225.55 meters high after 261 meters Tehri, which is also in India. The Govind Sagar, the reservoir of the Bhakra Dam, stores 9.34 billion cubic meters of water, which is enough to drain the whole of Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab and parts of Delhi. About 2 – 3 lakh visitors from all over the world visit this dam every year.

Kandrour Bridge

The Kandrour Bridge was built in 1965. It is an old link between Bilaspur and Hamirpur districts. It is located 8 km from Bilaspur on National Highway 88. This beautiful bridge is spectacular as it is built across the Sutlej River and is one of the tallest bridges in the world. The stunning beauty around the bridge and the area along the Sutlej River make Kandraur Bridge one of the most important tourist destinations in Bilaspur.

Koldam Dam

The Koldam Dam Hydropower Project of NTPC Limited is known as Koldam. It is another tourist attraction of Bilaspur which attracts a large number of people from different parts of the country and abroad. The Koldam Dam was planned to start in 2000 and the first brick was laid in the same year by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. However, proper construction began in 2004. It is enough attractive for visitors to visit. It has natural aquatic beauty and is a great place to enjoy a picnic. Tourists come to see this place for its abundant natural beauty. Some even came to see the huge machinery and equipment that has been used to create electricity in this huge project.

Fort Bahadurpur

This attractive fort is located on the top of a hill known as Bahadurpur, which is about 1980 meters above sea level. It is located near Tepra Village in Bilaspur. The fort is located at the highest point of Bilaspur district. It is also surrounded by beautiful Deodar and Banyan Trees. Tourists love this place. In the winter session, this fort becomes crowdy with visitors. Because at this time the place is decorated by green valleys and there is occasional snowfall in the region.

Kanan Pendari Zoo & Zoological Garden

Kanan Pendari Zoo has been recognized as a zoo by the Central Zoo Authority, New Delhi since 03/08/2005. Here the Central Zoo Authority has made it a new and fully equipped wildlife warehouse with the financial support of the New Delhi Authority. In which the wild animal’s of the circle are treated by wild animal trained Dr. P.K. Chandan. Tourist facilities are also considered in terms of wildlife conservation and maintenance at the Kanon Penadari Zoological Garden. More than 6 lakh tourists visit here every year. Special attention is also being paid to ensure all kinds of facilities for the tourists.

By Road: National Highways connect Bilaspur to Mumbai, Kolkata, Raipur, Ambikapur, Kharagpur, Jabalpur etc. It is well connected to Raipur in Chhattisgarh and neighbouring states, such as Indore, Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur in Maharashtra, etc. So, you can easily broad a bus to reach Bilaspur.

By Train: Bilaspur railway station is the busiest railway junction in Chhattisgarh.
